THE BRIDE WHO COULD NOT STOP CRYING

This work is part of a larger research exercise of reading Slavic women’s embroideries as texts - where every motif has a meaning and the meanings themselves are morphed and reclaimed.

“The Bride Who Could Not Stop Crying” explores the embroideries women made in connection to marriage, and the wedding day as a day of mourning.  In this single-player role playing video game, players take on the character of a bride who cannot stop crying as she goes about interacting with other women in her family and mythical characters in the embroideries they make. The reactions and choices of the player are reflected in the “tear meter” of the bride.

The game has three possible endings depending on the choices that the bride makes.

This project was created with the support of the Goa Centre For the Arts under VM Salgoacar Fellowship Grant 2023, instituted by Sunaparanta Goa Centre For The Arts.
